12-strikeout outing from Bagshaw leads Minot State to 4-1 as Beavers split twinbill

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – A career-best day on the mound from Colton Bagshaw led the way for Minot State, which beat Winona State 4-1 to open a neutral-site doubleheader on Saturday.
 
The Beavers (5-6 overall, 4-2 NSIC) fell 8-0 in the nightcap, a non-conference contest.
 
Minot State is back in action next weekend in Kansas, playing a 3-game series at William Jewel on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Junior Colton Bagshaw dominated on Saturday, striking out 12 Winona State hitters over seven innings of work to help lead the Minot State Beavers past the Warriors 4-1.
 
In addition to his 12 strikeouts, Bagshaw (1-1) went seven innings, giving up one run on four hits and walking three for Minot State. Senior Conner Meldrim also made an impact on the mound for the Beavers, throwing two shutout innings while allowing one hit, with one walk and four strikeouts.
 
In the batter's box, the Beavers were paced by senior Noah Madas, who went 2-for-5 on the day with a double and an RBI. Junior Nate Hutchison put together a standout performance at the plate as well, going 3-for-3 with an RBI. Junior Jorey Anderson also chipped in for Minot State, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a double.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Minot State got an RBI single from sophomore Wyatt Toth, scoring Madas from first base.
 
After the Warriors rallied to tie the ballgame at one, the Beavers came back to retake the lead in the fourth inning. Minot State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of sophomore Rhett Hodgins, which brought the score to 2-1 in favor of the Beavers.

Senior Jack Seibert (0-1) got the ball to start for Minot State and took the loss. Junior Seth Dietz was a bright spot for the Beavers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing one scoreless inning, allowing one hit, with no walks and one strikeout.
 
At the plate, the Beavers were paced by junior Jorey Anderson, who went 2-for-3 on the day.
