WILLISTON, ND --The Minot State Beavers took a 4-2 lead into the seventh inning, but could not hang on and fell 5-4 to the Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs Saturday.
Junior Wyatt Anicker (0-1) came out of the bullpen for Minot State (8-12, 4-8) and took the loss. Senior Conner Meldrim was a bright spot for the Beavers, coming out of the bullpen as well and throwing 1.2 shutout innings, allowing no hits, with no walks and three strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. Sophomore Wyatt Toth came across to score the lone run of the inning for Minot State and get them on the board.
The Bulldogs then rallied to score two runs and take a 2-1 lead before the Beavers got back on the board in the fifth. Minot State picked up two runs when a single from junior Vinnie Gates brought home senior Noah Madas and junior Colton Bagshaw, which brought the Beavers lead to 3-2.
Minot State kept Minnesota-Duluth without a run before building their lead to 4-2 the following inning. The Beavers were unable to hold the lead, as Minnesota-Duluth scored three times over the remaining three innings to grab the 5-4 win.

Junior Jacob Thompson (2-0) got the win for Minot State (9-12). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on five hits, allowing one walk and striking out six.
