Minot State dropped a pair of tightly contested games Sunday in St. Cloud, falling 4-3 in nine innings in the opener before a 6-4 loss to Concordia-St. Paul in Game 2. The Beavers move to 16-12 overall after holding late leads in both contests but were unable to close out the Golden Bears.
Concordia-St. Paul 4, Minot State 3 (9 inn.)
ST. CLOUD, Minn. — The Minot State Beavers were edged in extra innings Sunday, falling 4-3 to Concordia-St. Paul after a late comeback by the Golden Bears.
Junior Katie Newberry (5-3) took the loss in the circle for Minot State (16-11), throwing 8.1 innings and allowing four earned runs on eight hits while striking out four.
Senior Paige Kellogg led the Beavers offensively, going 2-for-5 with a home run and an RBI. Senior Sara Van Wickler added a 2-for-5 performance with a double and an RBI, while sophomore Ellington Anderson reached base four times with two hits and two walks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Minot State opened the scoring in the third inning when Anderson came around to score, giving the Beavers a 1-0 lead.
After Concordia-St. Paul tied the game, the Beavers regained the advantage in the ninth inning. Kellogg delivered a solo home run as part of a two-run frame to put Minot State ahead 3-1.
The Golden Bears answered in dramatic fashion in the bottom of the ninth, scoring three runs to walk off with the 4-3 victory.

ST. CLOUD, Minn. — The Minot State Beavers built an early lead but could not hold off Concordia-St. Paul, falling 6-4 in Sunday's second game.
Junior Taylor Kruser (2-6) took the loss in the circle for Minot State (16-12).
Senior Anna LaCount led the Beavers at the plate with a perfect 4-for-4 performance and an RBI. Sophomore Ellington Anderson added a hit and two walks, while senior Paige Kellogg contributed two hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Minot State struck first in the opening inning, with LaCount coming around to score to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead.
The Beavers added another run in the fourth inning on an RBI single by LaCount, extending the lead to 2-0. After Concordia-St. Paul tied the game, Minot State regained a 3-2 advantage in the fifth inning.
The Golden Bears responded by taking the lead late, going ahead 6-3 before Minot State added a run in the seventh when Jessie Henry scored to cut the deficit to 6-4. The Beavers' rally fell short as the Golden Bears held on for the win.
