Minot State men’s hockey adds goalie Jase Wareham for fall of 2026

MINOT, N.D. – If anyone knows goalies, it's Minot State men's hockey head coach Wyatt Waselenchuk, who is pleased to announce the addition of a new goalie to the Beavers roster.

Adding to a busy spring of recruiting, Coach Waselenchuk welcomes goalie Jase Wareham, who will join the Beavers as a freshman in the classroom and on the ice in the fall of 2026.

"In speaking with his former coaches and teammates, we have heard nothing but tremendous things about him as a person," Waselenchuk said of the 5-foot-11, 174-pound netminder from Rivers, Manitoba, who most recently played for two-time Minot State ACHA National Champion Landyn Cochrane, now coach for the Waywayseecappo Wolverines. "We have great confidence with our current goaltending situation, but at the end of the day, healthy competition is a great thing, and it was a decision that we have made as a staff to add Jase to bolster our depth in net."

"I'm super excited to commit to Minot State University and further my education and take the next step in my hockey career," Wareham said. "I'd like to thank my parents for supporting me throughout the years. I'd also like to thank the Waywayseecappo Wolverines and head coach Landyn Cochrane for believing in me and turning me into the goalie I am today. I'm thrilled with the opportunity to be a part of such a successful hockey program."

Wareham played in 92 games over the past three seasons with the Waywayseecappo Wolverines of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, winning 37 regular-season games and recording 3 shutouts.

"I couldn't be more excited for Jase as he continues his hockey career at Minot State," Coach Cochrane said. "He's an exceptional teammate and a player who gives your team a chance to win every single night. His work ethic, leadership, and consistency set the standard in our locker room the past three years. Minot State is getting not just a great goalie, but an even better person."

This past season, Wareham posted a career-best goals against average of 3.07 and a career-best 90.9 save percentage for the 2025-26 season. He also led the Wolverines to the second round of the Turnbull Cup Playoffs for the first time in team history, winning 5 of the 9 games he played in goal for Waywayseecappo in the postseason.

"Jase has a ton of junior-hockey experience and is coming off a fantastic playoff run," Waselenchuk said. "He competes for every puck and has a very strong technical base to his game. He wants to win, and I know he will push our guys every day in practice and will make the most out of every opportunity to earn playing time.

"We are incredibly excited to welcome Jase and his family to Minot State!"
