MINOT, N.D. — Kierra Fournier and Katie Newberry combined to throw a shutout Tuesday as the Minot State Beavers blanked the Mary Marauders 7-0.
Fournier (6-4) started and earned the win for Minot State (21-16, 6-7), tossing 4.2 shutout innings while allowing two hits, walking seven and striking out four. Newberry was dominant in relief, throwing 2.1 shutout innings without allowing a hit while striking out five.
Maizy Whitlow led the Beavers offensively with a home run and two RBIs, finishing 1-for-3. Sarah Misner added a double and two RBIs, while Sara Van contributed two hits, including a double, and drew a walk.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Minot State broke the game open in the third inning when the offense erupted for four runs. The inning was highlighted by Misner's two-run double that gave the Beavers control of the game.
The Beavers added insurance runs in the fifth and sixth innings to extend the lead to 7-0, while the Minot State pitching staff held Mary to just two hits the entire game.

MINOT, N.D. — The Minot State Beavers jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, defeating the Mary Marauders 10-2 in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader.
Sarah Misner (5-1) earned the win in the circle for Minot State (22-16, 7-7). The right-hander pitched four innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits while walking one and striking out two. Calley Olson added a scoreless inning in relief.
Maizy Whitlow led the Beavers offensively with a perfect 3-for-3 performance and three RBIs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Minot State quickly seized control in the first inning, scoring five runs to take an early 5-0 lead. Ellington Anderson contributed with a sacrifice fly during the inning.
The Beavers added another run in the second when Jessie Henry drew a bases-loaded walk to score Taylor Smith and extend the lead to 6-0.
After Mary cut the deficit to 6-2, Minot State responded with four more runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by Whitlow's two-run single, to push the lead to 10-2 and secure the victory.
