Minot State baseball swept Sioux Falls in Friday's NSIC doubleheader at Corbett Field, walking off the Cougars 4-3 in eight innings in Game 1 behind Wyatt Toth's RBI single before holding on for an 11-10 win in the nightcap as Nate Larsen drove in five runs. The Beavers improved to 26-22 overall (20-17 NSIC) with the pair of wins and will wrap up the series against Sioux Falls tomorrow at noon in Minot.
GAME 1 |
MINOT, ND --The Minot State Beavers needed eight innings to get the job done, but pulled off the 4-3 extra-innings win, walking it off on a single off the bat of sophomore Wyatt Toth to claim victory over the Sioux Falls Cougars Friday.
Senior Conner Meldrim (5-3) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Minot State (25-22, 19-17). The right-hander went 0.2 shutout innings without giving up a hit, allowing one walk and striking out one. Junior Ayden Sauerbrei also made an impact on the mound for the Beavers, starting the ballgame and throwing 7.1 innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on five hits, with one walk and six strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 2-0, the Beavers first put runs on the board in the fourth inning. Minot State scored three times, all of them coming across on a three-run homer off the bat of senior Michael Williamson.
Sioux Falls then rallied to tie the ballgame at 3-3 before Minot State walked it off in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI single off the bat of Toth.

MINOT, ND --Freshman Nate Larsen collected five RBIs to help power the Minot State Beavers past the Sioux Falls Cougars 11-10 on Friday.
Junior Seth Dietz (1-0) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Minot State (26-22, 20-17). The right-hander went one inning, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on five hits.
Larsen went 2-for-3 with a triple and a home run in addition to his five RBIs for the Beavers. Senior Oscar Pegg put together a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Junior Cowen Meyer also contributed for Minot State, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a double, a walk and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 2-0, the Beavers first put runs on the board in the first inning. Minot State plated two runs off of Sioux Falls pitching, one of which was driven in on a run-scoring double off the bat of Meyer.
The game remained tied until the third inning, when the Beavers got going again on offense. The Minot State offense exploded for six runs, highlighted by a three-run triple off the bat of Larsen, which brought the Beavers lead to 8-2.
Minot State's lead had disappeared by the time the fifth inning arrived and turned into a 9-8 Sioux Falls advantage, when the Beavers re-took control at 11-9. The Beavers picked up three runs in the frame, two of them coming across on a two-run homer from Larsen. Sioux Falls put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Minot State still held on for the 11-10 win.
