SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Sophomore Sarah Misner had the lone hit of the day for Minot State as the Beaver softball team saw its season come to an end with a 5-1 loss to St. Cloud State in the quarterfinals of the NSIC Tournament on Thursday.
Misner went 1-for 2 with a home run and an RBI for the Minot State, while senior Kierra Fournier (10-9) started and took the loss in the circle for the Beavers (34-22). Junior Katie Newberry was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 3.1 shutout innings while allowing two hits, walking none, and striking out three.
HOW IT HAPPENED
St. Cloud State started strong, plating four runs in the bottom of the first inning for a lead the Huskies never relinquished.
Trailing 5-0, the Beavers first put runs on the board in the fifth inning. Misner put Minot State on the board with a one-out solo home run off senior Macey Clark. The Beavers were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
