MINOT, N.D. – After an offseason of recruiting and continued progress, Minot State men's hockey opened their campaign with a 3-1 home victory over Arizona State University Saturday night at Maysa Arena. 

After Arizona State opened the scoring 5 minutes and 9 seconds into the game, the Beavers responded with three unanswered goals to take control of the contest. 

Kieran Cooke tied the game just 39 seconds after the Sun Devils' opening goal, scoring off an assist from Logan Cyca. 

Colby Joseph then gave the Beavers the lead midway through the second period, scoring a power-play goal to make it 2-1. Joey Moffatt and Trenton Curtis recorded assists on the goal. 

Colby Joseph tacked on his second goal of the night in the third period to extend the Beavers' lead to 3-1. Moffatt and Walker Jerome assisted on the goal. 

In net for the Beavers, Blake Sittler stopped 14 of Arizona State's 15 shots on goal, finishing the night with a .933 save percentage. 

The Beavers will face Arizona State again tomorrow night at Maysa Arena in Eck Rink. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 27.
