JAMESTOWN, N.D. – After an electric, last-second finish against the University of Jamestown on Friday night, Minot State women's hockey completed a perfect opening weekend Saturday night, defeating the Jimmies 3-1 on the road to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Jade Olszewski opened the scoring for the Beavers midway through the second period, with Taylor Terin recording the assist.
Kinley Brassard, who scored the game-winning goal in the final second of Friday night's contest, added a power-play goal 1 minute and 13 seconds into the third period to give Minot State a 2-0 lead. The goal was Brassard's second of the season, with Addison Dyck and Abby Tallman recording the assists.
Jamestown answered at the 13:49 mark of the third period, as Emma Pollock found the back of the net to cut the Beavers' lead to 2-1.
Minot State responded with a power-play goal from Claire Hudson, who recorded her first goal of the season to extend the Beavers' lead to 3-1. Paige Crossley and Karlyn Gudz were credited with assists on the goal.
Goaltender Jillian Ackerman turned in another strong performance in net, making 22 saves on 23 shots. Ackerman finished the night with a .957 save percentage and earned her second win of the season.
The Beavers will return to action next weekend when they travel to Regina, Saskatchewan, to take on the University of Regina. Minot State and Regina will face off Oct. 2 at 8 p.m. and Oct. 3 at 4 p.m.
