Dwight "Chipper" Farrell enters his sixth season as head coach of both the men's and women's golf programs at Minot State University.
Farrell continued to dominate the Dakota Athletic Conference in 2010-11 as the men captured the school's fourth straight DAC title and advanced to the NAIA Qualifier. The MSU women's team finished as the DAC team champion for the second season, and advanced to the NAIA National Championships, finishing 24th.
The 2009-10 Beavers had perhaps the most successful year in the history of the DAC. MSU captured both the men's and women's team titles, the DAC's men's Most Valuable Player (Jordan Kelly), men's Most Valuable Senior (Justin Aberle), four members of the men's all conference team (Ben Edwards, Casey Gleich, Kelly and Aberle), the women's Most Valuable Player and Most Valuable Senior (Whitney Stanley) and two members of the women's all conference team (Ali Hilkewich and Stanley).
The crowning achievement to the 2009-2010 season was the women's first ever trip to the NAIA National Women's Golf Championships in Rapid City, S.D.
Farrell is no stranger to winning golf titles or to post season accolades. He has won three men's DAC Coach of the Year honors including last season and one women's DAC Coach of the Year (2009-10). Farrell won five state championships with the Minot High School girls golf team and two state titles with the Magicians boys team.
He coached Minot High since 1977, raking up the most wins of any prep coach in the state of North Dakota.He was inducted into the North Dakota High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1995, the National High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2002 and the North Dakota Golf Association Hall of Fame in 2002.
Farrell was a three-sport standout for Minot State University, earning 12 letters and was named the 1968 College Athlete of the Year. He completed his bachelor's degree in physical education in 1970 at Minot State University.
