Randy Westby enters his sixth season as the head coach of the Minot State University men's golf program in 2018-19.
Under Westby, the Beavers golf program continues to place in the upper half of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and has positioned itself as one of the top teams in the region.
In the 2017-18 season, Minot State finished seventh at the NSIC Championships. Matthew Kreutz was named Second Team All-NSIC following the season.
During the 2016-17 season, the Beavers capped their year with a third-place finish at the NSIC Championships to finish with the best season since making the move to NCAA Division II. Additionally, Karson O'Keefe was named First Team All-NSIC, while Matthew Kreutz was named second team all-conference.
In 2015-16, a young Beaver squad improved over the course of the season to finish seventh at the NSIC Championships, firing a 302 in the final round for its best total. MSU won the Montana State-Billings Invite during the season and placed one golfer, junior Karson O'Keefe, on the All-NSIC Team.
In 2015, the Beavers nearly had its second NSIC individual champion under Westby as Kowan O'Keefe finsihed second by a stroke. The Beavers were ninth overall. Westby once again coached Kowan O'Keefe to a placement on the Capital One Academic All-America® Division II Men's At-Large Team in 2015. O'Keefe was named to his third straight All-NSIC team finishing second at the NSIC Championship.
In his first season with the program, MSU ranked fifth in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference in scoring average, and Westby landed junior Kowan O'Keefe on the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America® Division II Men's At-Large Team.
Westby, who was officially hired by MSU on July 9, 2013, is a Rolette, N.D. native and a 1980 graduate from the University of North Dakota. Prior to getting involved with golf, he served as a Certified Public Accountant.
He has a long history of playing, coaching and involvement with golf in the Minot area as well as the state of North Dakota. Westby is currently the President of the North Dakota Golf Association and is a past member of the Board of Directors at the Minot Country Club and the Rugby Golf Club. He was named the 2015 North Dakota Senior Player of the Year by the NDGA, finishing second in two different tournaments.
Westby and his wife Debora have two children, Clarissa and Ryan, and reside in Minot.
