Dave Kivett begins his second season as head coach for the Minot State softball program, becoming just the seventh head coach in program history.
During his first year guiding the Beavers, Kivett saw his time break over 20 NCAA Division II era school records as Minot State finished the season with a 25-24 overall record and a 12-14 mark in NSIC play. Minot State earned a spot in the NSIC Tournament following the conclusion of the regular season.
Under his tutalage, Tori Zimmermann earned First Team All-Central Region honors by both the NFCA and the D2CCA. She also was a First Team All-NSIC selection. Isis Cabral was named Second Team All-NSIC as an outfielder.
Kivett will make a return to Minot State as he earned degrees in physical education and business administration in 1985 at MSU. He played defensive back for the Beavers football team during the 1985 and 1986 seasons, earning all-conference honors. He also holds a Master’s in physical education from Azusa Pacific (Calif.) and a credential in adaptive physical education from Cal State – Pomona.
Over the past 31 years, Kivett has been associated with Yucaipa High School in Yucaipa, Calif., spending the past 12 years as head softball coach and assistant football coach. During his time at Yucaipa, he helped prepare 41 college-bound student-athletes.
He coached Yucaipa High School to the 2015 National Softball Championship, earning National Coach of the Year honors in that season. He also coached his prep teams to the CIF Section Playoff semifinals in 2006 and 2014 and earned the CIF South Section Softball Championship in 2015. His teams were CIF Southern Section Playoff Division 2 participants each season since 2005.
Along with coaching at the high school level, he spent 12 seasons as an assistant head coach at the club softball level with Sudden Impact Travel Softball (2000-2012).
Kivett has been a physical education instructor at Yucaipa since 1986, serving as the department head as well as an instructor in adaptive physical education.
