Coach Alex Courtney was named Minot State head coach in October of 2024 after serving as interim head coach for the previous nine months and as the Beavers top assistant prior to that as she joined the program in April of 2022.
In her first season leading the Beavers, Coach Courtney brought a pre-conference tournament back to the MSU Dome for the first time since 2008 as Minot State hosted the Live 1st International Bank Homecoming Classic. Along with hosting an early-season tournament, Courtney picked up her first career win, a 3-2 victory over Brandon, during the home event. The Minot State volleyball team also earned the AVCA Team Academic Award with a season-long team GPA of 3.593, the 3rd time the Beavers have earned the award and first time since the 2019-20 season.
Courtney brings four years of experience coaching at Sentinel High School in Missoula, Mont., with her to Minot State. During her time with the Spartans as an assistant coach she helped lead the program to a 58-26 record during three seasons, and to state tournament berths each of those years. With her assistance, the Spartans graduated 4 All-State and 6 All-Conference award-winning student-athletes, the Spartans won a Divisional Championship after a 17-4 season in 2021 and earned a Top 4-finish in the State at the AA level that season.
Courtney began her own collegiate career playing two seasons at Montana Tech then graduated with honors with a Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition with a concentration in Women’s Health from Johnson & Wales University in Denver Colo., where she played basketball and volleyball. Courtney earned her Masters from Montana State University.
A product of Wolf Point, Montana where she was a three-sport student-athlete, Courtney was a 3-time All-Conference and All-State performer in volleyball.
