Coach Mitchem joined the Minot State staff in the summer of 2021 and serves as the head assistant coach for the men's wrestling program.
Mitchem spent 7 years as the head coach at Brewton-Parker (Ga.) prior to joining the Beavers staff. At Brewton-Parker he recently guided the Barons to a 20th-place finish at the NAIA National Championships, and coached Lucas Nelson (125 pounds) to runner-up National Champion honors. He also coached two Academic All-Americans and three Freshman of the Year winners at Brewton-Parker, and his teams finished in the Top 20 four times.
Along with his seven years leading the Brewton-Parker program, Mitchem also spent two years as an assistant coach at Campbellsville University (Ky.) and two seasons as an assistant at Shorter University (Ga.), along with coaching wrestlers of all ages for 11 years at The Wrestling Center in Georgia.
Coach Mitchem joins his wife, Brittney Mitchem who is the head coach for the Minot State women's wrestling program, in Minot. The couple have one son, TJ.
