MINOT, N.D. – Minot State University made the most of its chance to get a little revenge on Southwest Minnesota State.
MSU's
Tara McPartland (Jr., F, Sandy, Utah) scored with 2:08 remaining in the first overtime to lift the Beavers to a 3-2 win in nonconference women's soccer Saturday at Herb Parker Stadium.
The goal gave MSU a win over one of the team's that has handed the Beavers a lost this year – a 2-1 overtime loss Sept. 15 in Marshall, Minn.
McPartland took a feed from
Jordan Kramer (Sr., Mid, Las Vegas, Nev.) just to the left of the goal, cut back and banged a low shot off the far post that caromed down the line for a few feet before spinning just over the line. It was McPartland's fourth goal on the year.
The game-winner was made possible by a late goal by the Beavers to force overtime. After multiple minutes of solid pressure, the Beavers tied the game at 2 on a perfect give-and-go move between
Jamie MacFarland (Fr., F, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) and
Ashley Goheen (Sr., Mid, Manteca, Calif.) just outside the box. MacFarland, who had come on a few minutes before the goal, raced up with a burst of speed, made a touch pass to Goheen and buried the return pass in the 86th minute.
MSU and Southwest Minnesota traded early goals as Goheen and the Mustangs' Kate Voight scored eight minutes apart. Southwest Minnesota took a 2-1 lead as Brittany Oehlerking fired a perfect bending shot past MSU's Holly Chrisope (Sr., Chico, Calif.) from 25 yards out.
The Beavers opened with solid pressure and increased it as the second half wore on, outshooting the Mustangs 24-8 and 9-3 in shots on goal.
Chrisope finished with one save in the win. Mustangs' goalkeeper Kendra Olchefske finished the match with six saves.
MSU (6-3-3 overall) have another shot at avenging a loss as they play host to Rocky Mountain College Saturday at 7 p.m.
