BEMIDJI, Minn. – Bemidji State got a little revenge on the Minot State University women's soccer team.
The BSU Beavers topped the MSU Beavers 1-0 in nonconference play here Saturday. Bemidji fell 1-0 to Minot State to begin the season – the first win in the Minot State program's history.
BSU's Kari McAleen scored an unassisted goal from 20-yards out on a clearance in the 84th minute for the game winner. It was McAleen's first goal of the season.
Bemidji came out with a flurry of shots and corner kicks, but the Beavers withstood the opening barrage. After the BSU pressure, Minot State mustered some pressure as well. But, neither team could solve the other's goalkeeper until late.
Minot State's
Holly Chrisope (Sr., G, Chico, Calif.) finished with three saves, while BSU's tandem of Samantha Ross and Abby Kjonaas combined for seven saves.
In the second half, MSU made a push just before the BSU goal, getting a couple of shots on goal, but could not get one in. Minot finished with six shots in the first half and seven in the second. BSU countered with 15 shots and a 6-3 edge in corner kicks.
Lexi Kidd (Jr., Mid, Sutter, Calif.) and
Jamie MacFarlane (Fr., F, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) led Minot State with two shots on goal apiece. MacFarlane had four total shots.
MSU finishes the season with a road game at Jamestown College Wednesday before playing host to the University of Great Falls (Mont.) to end the regular season Oct. 29 at Herb Parker Stadium.
