JAMESTOWN, N.D. – Minot State University's
Ashley Goheen (Sr., Mid, Manteca, Calif.) scored twice and the Beavers offense netted five goals as MSU defeated fellow Dakota Athletic Conference foe Jamestown College 5-2 in college soccer here Thursday.
The match was pushed back one day due to poor conditions Wednesday. It was the last regular season away match for the Beavers this season. MSU plays host to the University of Great Falls (Mont.) Friday at 4 p.m. at Herb Parker Stadium in the final regular season match of the season.
The Beavers didn't waste much time getting up on the Jimmies as they scored three goals in the first half and led 3-0 and 3-1 at half time.
“We played pretty well even with a skeleton crew,” said MSU head coach
Jason Spain. “We had to leave some kids home because of labs after we moved the game back one day.”
Goheen scored twice to start the game, giving MSU a 2-0 lead. That lead grew to 3-0 after
Jamie MacFarlane (Fr., F, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) scored in the first half.
JC cut it to 3-1 on a goal by Hanna Langseth late in the first half.
But, the Beavers pushed it back to a three-goal lead as
Tara McPartland (Jr., F, Sandy, Utah) scored her team-lead fifth goal of the season early in the second half.
JC's Rachel Goslinga added a second-half goal before MSU's
Dakota Barnett (Fr., F, Princeville, Hawaii) got back into the scoring column. Barnett has been nursing an injury since the MSU-JC game at Minot earlier in the season, getting her second goal in as many games against the Jimmies.
MSU will finish off the regular season with UGF and then await their fate for the NAIA regional tournament following the end of the season. MSU is looking to qualify for the tournament in their first season.
