Soccer falls in overtime

Southwest scores early in OT to earn win

MARSHALL, Minn. – Southwest Minnesota State's Maggy Rouse scored in the 93 rd minute to break a 1-1 tie and give the Mustangs a 2-1 overtime win over Minot State University in nonconference women's soccer Wednesday at the Regional Event Center.

The Beavers tied the game at one in the second half on a goal by Melissa Grant (Sr., Midfielder, Chico, Calif.). Grant finished with a match-high of six shots.

Both teams had changes as MSU mustered 18 shots, while SMSU had 15. The Beavers got 13 of those shots on goal, while the Mustangs finished with nine.

MSU looked to get an overtime win as Nicole Matsumoto (Fr., Midfielder, Fresno, Calif.) got a shot on goal, but Southwest's Kendra Olchefske made one of her 12 saves to keep the tie intact.

MSU's goalkeeper Marie Torres (Jr., Burlingame, Calif.) made seven saves in the contest.

Southwest's Kelly Fitzgerald scored the game's first goal midway through the first half.

With the loss, MSU stands at 3-2-2 overall. SMSU improved to 1-1 overall.

The Beavers are back at home for a midweek game as they play host to Jamestown College in a Tuesday night (7 p.m.) matchup at Herb Parker Stadium.
