BISMARCK, N.D. – Minot State University's
Jordan Kramer (Mid, Las Vegas, Nev.) scored just a minute, 32 seconds into the match, but the Beavers allowed a second-half goal as MSU and the University of Mary tied 1-1 in nonconference women's soccer Wednesday at the Bismarck Community Bowl.
MSU took the 1-0 lead on a ball played through from the left side by
Shannon Walsh (So., Mid, Minot, N.D.) and tipped by
Tatyanny Griffiths (Fr., F, Dallas, Texas) directly to Kramer who buried into the open net. It marks the fastest goal to start a match for the first-year program.
The Beavers almost made it stand as they fended off all but one of the Marauders' 22 shots. Mary got the equalizer in the 81st minute of the second half as Michelle Jones scored from 25 yards out. Amy Tanaka earned the assist on the goal.
MSU had a shot in the first overtime and Mary finished with two in the second extra session, but neither team could get the game-winner. The Beavers took eight shots, but only had one on goal – the goal by Kramer. Mary, on the other hand, had four shots on goal and a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks in the game.
MSU goalkeeper
Holly Chrisope (Sr., Chico, Calif.) finished with three saves in the match, while Mary's keeper Kassie Young did not record a save.
With the tie, MSU now stands at 5-3-3 overall, while Mary is 2-4-3. The Beavers are 3-1-2 against NCAA Division II teams and welcomes another to Herb Parker Stadium as Southwest Minnesota State comes to Minot for a 2 p.m. Saturday game. MSU is 3-0-0 at home so far this season.
