Beavers go cold in second half, lose at BSU

Minot State shoots just 39 percent in loss

BEMIDJI, Minn. – Minot State University was held to just 16 points in the second half as Bemidji State pulled away for a 74-45 win at the InnKeepers Beaver Classic  in NCAA Division II men's basketball Friday at the BSU Gymnasium.

The MSU Beavers trailed by only eight at the half, but went cold early in the second half. Minot was outscored 28-7 over the first 12 minutes of the second half as BSU also took advantage of 22 Minot State turnovers in the contest.

MSU had a great start, scoring the game's first six points. The MSU Beavers continued to shoot the ball well in the first half, hitting 54.5 percent of their shots, but allowed the BSU Beavers to hit 57 percent, hitting 16 first-half baskets.

Missed shots were abundant in the second half as MSU went from the 54.5 shooting to just 39.1 percent overall. MSU ended the game on a five-minute scoring drought.

The Minnesota Beavers continued solid first half shooting in the second half. BSU scored 37 points in each half and finished with a solid 55.6 percent shooting from the floor. Bemidji State finished with 13 steals in the game.

James Ellisor hit 8 of 12 shots from the floor to pace Bemidji (4-1 overall) with 22 points. He also finished with four steals, three rebounds and two assists. Bryce Tesdahl knocked down all five shots he took, including 3 of 3 on 3-pointers to score 13 points. Tesdahl dished out seven assists as well. Jason Edwards was the third BSU player in double figures with 11.

Minot State (1-5 overall) had just one player in double figures as Josh Johnson (Jr., F, Lufkin, Texas) scored 11 points and added five rebounds. Chris East (So., G, Toronto, Ontario) added eight points, while Jonas Pollard (Sr., G, Mesa, Ariz.) finished with seven points.

The MSU Beavers continue play at the Classic with a game against Southwest Minnesota State Saturday at 5 p.m.
