SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Minot State University senior
Marianna Danna (D, Sutter, Calif.) added a little exclamation mark to her storied two-year career.
Danna, the program's first All-American, scored the game winner in the 88th minute to lift the Beavers to a 2-1 win over the University of Winnipeg Saturday at the University of Sioux Falls Transitional Tournament.
It was the season finale for the Beavers and Danna's final match in a MSU uniform.
MSU (10-8 overall) had to rally from a 1-0 halftime deficit with two goals from defensemen in the second half. Freshman
Taylor Bachman-Williams (Minot, N.D.), who started the season as a forward, but was moved to defense late, got the Beavers equalizer in the 84th minute on a feed from
Sidney Bockoven (So., M, Elk Grove, Calif.).
Winnipeg got the better of much of the play as they held large statistical advantages. Winnipeg outshot MSU 17-9, including 12-2 in the first half and held a 5-0 advantage on corner kicks. The Beavers didn't force UW goalkeeper Danika Taylor to make a save in the first half and only had five shots on goal.
But, MSU made two of them count late as MSU scored both goals in the final 10 minutes of the match.
MSU's goaltender
Ashley Barzcewski (Jr., O'Fallon, Mo.) finished with seven saves for the win.
Zoe Fisher (Fr., M, Cambridgeshire, England) was held scoreless for the first time in four matches, but finished with five shots and two shots on goal for the Beavers.
