SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Rocky Mountain College's Joel Barndt hit a jump shot with 18 seconds remaining to lift the Bears to a 64-62 win over Minot State in second day of the Westminster College Tournament Saturday at Behnken Fieldhouse.
The Beavers (1-12 overall) took a late four-point lead on a three-point play by
Chris East (So., G, Toronto, Ontario) with just 1:04 to play.
But Barndt nailed a 3-pointer after he retrieved an offensive rebound with 48 second to go. After a miss by MSU, Barndt capped off a 23-point night with the eventual game-winner.
MSU had a chance to get the lead back, but the Beavers failed to convert with just three seconds to play in the game.
MSU trailed much of the game but kept it within striking distance. The Beavers took a lead with 6:20 remaining on a dunk by
Jonas Pollard (Sr., G, Mesa, Ariz.) after
Yonas Behre (Jr., G, Toronto, Ontario) stole the ball and fed Pollard.
Minot State pushed it to 59-56 on the sixth 3-pointer of the night by
Thomas Korf (R-Fr., F, St. Cloud, Minn.). Koft went 6 for 8 on 3-pointers and scored a team-high 20 points for the Beavers.
After the Korf 3, MSU actually forced two misses by the Bears, but RMC pulled down two offensive rebounds. Each team finished with 16 offensive rebounds, but it was Rocky Mountain (6-7) who earned the biggest offensive boards late.
Barndt finished with a double-double as he pulled down 13 rebounds to go along with 25 points. Sergio Trocha added 15 points and 11 rebounds to the Battlin' Bears cause and Matt Fogarty scored 10 points in the win.
Along with Korf, MSU had two other players score in double figures as Behre and East each scored 14 points. East had a monster night on the boards as he finished with a game-high 17 rebounds, including 10 on the offensive end. Behre added six assists and four rebounds to his 14 points.
Adam Randall (R-Fr., G, Steele, N.D.) pulled down 10 rebounds and added six points for the Beavers.
MSU is off now until a three-game stretch at the Wesmen Classic in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Dec. 28-30.
