MOORHEAD, Minn. – Minot State University wrestling lost three weights by a combined nine points as Minnesota State-Moorhead topped the Beavers 24-1- in NCAA Division II wrestling Friday.
The Beavers earned three wins against future Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference foe, but also gave up a pin and a major decision in the loss.
Minot started strong as
Cody George (Jr., Clancy, Mont.) earned a major decision over Kody Kalkbrenner at 184 pounds. George earned the four points with an 11-4 win.
But the Beavers were defeated at the next four weights including a pin by Eric Lehmann and a major decision by Gerad Fugleberg to put the Dragons to a 15-4 lead.
“It was a lost opportunity for us,” said MSU head coach
Robin Ersland. “The pin at 197 ended up hurting us. Weppler (MSU junior
Wade Weppler, Minot, N.D.) is still hurt and we had to move Luke (
Luke Michaelson, So., Williston) up.”
Deon Buhl (Sr., Lacey, Wash.) and
Marcus Bausman (Fr., Minot, N.D.) earned the Beavers other two wins. Bausman improved to 22-2 on the season.
MSU is off for the weekend and returns to the mat Feb. 4 at the Jamestown College Open.
