Beavers extend win streak to six

Minot State scores four in second half out blow out UMC

Box Score MINOT, N.D. – Minot State University hasn't been known as a prolific scoring team this season.

The Beavers have had a tendency to allow teams to linger.

Not on Sunday.

Minot State scored four goals in the second half to blow open a close match and ran its winning streak to six games with a 5-0 win over Minnesota Crookston in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference women's soccer Sunday at Herb Parker Stadium.

“It was nice to be able to play some other players and get some production from multiple players,” said MISU head coach Jason Spain. “They (Crookston) did a good job of packing it in and we missed some chances in the first half, but I felt like our depth was going to take over sooner or later. We did a good job of keeping the pressure on and kept getting chances.”

The Beavers (12-3-1 overall, 10-3-0 NSIC) led just 1-0 after the first 45 minutes of play, getting a Lexy Kidd (Sr., M, Sutter, Calif.) goal in the 20th minute. But, while Minot State generated plenty of shots, the Beavers couldn't connect.

That changed early in the second half.

Minot State scored three times in eight minutes to open the math up. Tara McPartland (Sr., F, Sandy, Utah) sandwiched two goals around a Jamie MacFarlane (Jr., F, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) goal to give Minot State a 4-0 lead 10 minutes into the second half. It was the first and second goal of the season for McPartland and the third for MacFarlane.

Taylor Bachman-Williams (So., F, Minot, N.D.) also got her first goal of the season, capping the scoring in the 61st minute with a short-side shot that tucked just inside the post.

Minot State's Marie Torres (Sr., GK, San Bruno, Calif.) and backup Ashley Barczewski (Sr., GK, O'Fallon, Mo.) combined for a shutout, but neither touched a save as the Beavers limited UMC to just one wide shot. It was the 12th win of the season for Torres.

UMC's (2-13-1, 2-10-1) Ashleigh Erdmann stopped 11 shots in the loss.

The Beavers notched their 12th win of the season, a new school record for the third-year program. Minot State has three regular season matches and put themselves in prime position to host a first-round NSIC playoff game Oct. 31. Minot State plays host to Minnesota State Moorhead Friday at 7 p.m. in the regular season home finale.
