MINOT, N.D. – Minot State University wrestling never got going Wednesday.

The Beavers could only muster points in a forfeit match as the University of Mary won all nine weights contested to take a 36-6 win in NCAA Division II wrestling.

The match was much more competitive than the final score indicated. The Marauders (5-4 overall) won five weights from 157-197 by a combined 10 points and only one match ended in a fall with nationally ranked Trevor Johnson stopping MSU's Deon Buhl (Sr., Lacey, Wash.) at 3:52.

The Beavers (4-3 overall) knew it would have to win and earn big points in the middle weights as Minot State was open at 125 and at heavyweight. Instead, MSU couldn't get a key momentum-building win.

MSU's Marcus Bausman (Fr., Minot, N.D.) and Brock Grumm battled back and forth at 157, with Grumm earning two takedowns in the third period. Bausman countered with three total escapes in the third and a takedown of his own, but couldn't get another late, losing 7-6.

The Beavers' Drew Spaulding (Fr., Bismarck, N.D.) and U-Mary's Collin Engelhardt didn't muster the points, but had nearly the same match as the Bausman/Grumm battle. Spaulding finished with two escapes in the final period, but Engelhardt got the key takedown in the third.

Marcus Wilson (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.), Cody George (Jr., Clancy, Mont.) and Luke Michaelson (So., Williston, N.D.) also lost tight matches at 165, 174 and 186 respectively. Michaelson led 5-4 in the third and tied the match at six late in the third before giving up a late takedown.

The Beavers finish the regular season with another dual against a future Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference foe Northern State next Wednesday at the MSU Dome.
