Box Score BISMARCK, N.D. – There wasn't much separating Minot State University soccer and the University of Mary Sunday afternoon.
In fact, the teams were tied at zero heading into the 100th minute – the final minute of the overtime.
But the Marauders got the space it wanted in the most important stat of all as Andrea Muller slipped in a cross from Michelle Jones at 99:16 for the game winner propelling U-Mary to a 1-0 overtime win in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference women's soccer at the Bismarck Community Bowl.
“It's frustrating,” said MISU head coach
Jason Spain. “We had our chances. I thought we carried a lot of the play, but we couldn't get one to go.”
Muller's overtime goal spoiled Minot State's first-ever NSIC conference game and gave the Marauders their first win of the season. Minot State fell to 1-1 overall.
The Beavers had a golden opportunity to win the match in regulation as
Nicole Matsumoto (Jr., Mid, Fresno, Calif.) clanged a medium range shot off the cross bar with just under 16 minutes to play in regulation. Minot State finished with 14 shots and three shots on goal in the contest.
U-Mary countered much of the game as the Marauders had a couple of great opportunities right before the first half break and then again midway through the second half.
But, Minot State's goalkeeper
Marie Torres (Sr., San Bruno, Calif.) made five saves, including a highlight reel diving stop to preserve the 0-0 game halfway through the second half.
Minot State steps out of NSIC play for the week as they play host to Southwest Baptist Thursday starting at 7 p.m. and nationally ranked Central Missouri Saturday at noon at Herb Parker Stadium.
