Fisher's OT goal lifts Beavers

Minot State finally gets an overtime win

Box Score MINOT, N.D. – Minot State University soccer finally got a late bounce – and goal – to go its way.

After dropping two overtime games this season, Minot State' Zoe Fisher's (Jr., F, Cambridgeshire, England) hustle play gave the Beavers an overtime game winner.

Fisher scored in the 94th minute after a ball got free from the Augustana College goalkeeper just outside the Augie net to send Minot State to 2-1 (OT) win in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference women's soccer Friday at Herb Parker Stadium.

"Bottom line is, Zoe kept running and they didn't keep running," said MISU head coach Jason Spain. "Early in the year, when we dropped the ball, the other team got to them. We have started to get to some of those. Maybe she (Vikings goalie Ashley Limmer) gets to it, maybe she doesn't, but the difference is Zoe keeps going."

The goal gave Minot State (4-6-2 overall, 4-5-1 NSIC) its second-straight win, the only winning streak the Beavers have strung together this season. It also helped MISU keep pace for the eighth and final spot in the conference tournament.

Minot State was also aggressive for the second-straight match, getting a goal in the 51 st minute as Emilie Rebelo (So., M, Sacramento, Calif.) scored from just inside the box after a loose ball caromed to her from another hustle play by Fisher.

"Our forwards and midfield – after the 12 minute mark of the first half where I was a little frustrated – played ball-side, in front, aggressive soccer," Spain said. "One thing you won't see because of how we played is that (Augustana College) is the most technical team we play. We have never had this much possession as we did tonight. Hats off to our midfield and forwards. Kelli (Kelli Creese, D, R-Fr., La Verne, Calif.) and Kayla (Kayla Schlittenhart, So., M, Sparks, Nev.) were amazing for us."

The lead was fairly short lived, however, as the Vikings (8-5-0, 6-4-0) tied the match at one 2 minutes later as Maren Werth netted her 11th of the season on the feed from Haley Berner to send the match in overtime.

The Vikings had the first two scoring changes in overtime, but Minot State's Jimi Guibor (So., G, Menteca, Calif.), making her second straight start in net for the Beavers, turned both away. She finished with seven saves in 93-plus minutes.

Minot State will look to make it three straight as the Beavers play host to Wayne State College Sunday afternoon starting at 1 p.m.
