Box Score BEMIDJI, Minn. – Minot State University outlasted Bemidji State 28-26 in set 1 and used that to push on to a 3-0 sweep in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference volleyball Saturday at the BSU Gymnasium.
It was the first road conference win of the season for the Minot State Beavers (8-12 overall, 4-7 NSIC).
Minot State didn't hit the ball extremely well, finishing with a .227 hitting percentage, but MISU limited BSU to just .169 hitting and only 20 total kills over the final two sets. The Beavers limited BSU to just eight kills in set 2 as Minot State won a pair of 25-21 sets to wrap up the sweep.
Jen Dixon (Jr., OH, Brandon, Manitoba) completed a solid weekend with a match-high 16 kills. She swatted a total of 34 kills on the weekend. Dixon also finished with 17 digs on defense.
Dixon led a trio of Minot State hitters in double figures for kills as
Kelsey Wingo (Sr., MH, Twain Harte, Calif.) finished with 12 kills, a .435 hitting percentage and three block assists, and freshman
Taylor Butters (OH, Spokane Valley, Wash.) added 10 kills.
Bemidji State (5-14, 1-10) got 10 kills from Rachel Craig Volkmann in the loss.
Setting the table for the trio of hitters was junior setter
Emily Byrne (Reno, Nev.) who had 49 assists.
Ashley Heavenor (So., L, Cochrane, Alberta) paced the defense with 20 digs.
Minot State has a triple header next week as they travel to rival University of Mary Tuesday before returning home for a pair of NSIC matches this weekend as the Beavers play host to No. 1 ranked Concordia St. Paul on Friday (7 p.m.) and Minnesota State Saturday (3 p.m.).
