Rebelo sends Beavers to third-straight win

Minot State pulls to .500 in conference play with win over WSC

Box Score MINOT, N.D. – Minot State University used a free-kick goal by sophomore Emilie Rebelo (M, Sacramento, Calif.) in the first half to earn a 1-0 win over Wayne State College in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference women's soccer Sunday.

The win pushed the Beavers (5-6-2 overall, 5-5-1 NSIC)to the 500 mark in the conference for the first time this season and sent MISU to a season-high third win in a row.
"We were steady all day, but really needed to get another goal to take the pressure off," said MISU head coach Jason Spain. "But you will never complain about a win in this league. Emilie has taken some big shots for us and it was nice for her to get one of those to go in."

Rebelo took the shot just inside the box after an obstruction was called on Wayne State. She hammered a low ball to the far right side after taking a tap from Zoe Fisher (So., F, Cambridgeshire, England) who earned her fifth assist on the season on the play.

From there it took a solid defense effort by the Beavers, shot off the post by MISU's Kelli Creese (R-Fr., D, La Verne, Calif.) and a couple huge saves by WSC's Kylie Comba to keep it a 1-0 match.

Crease banged a header off the post in the second half in the Beavers best chance for a 2-0 lead. Minot State finished with nine second-half shots and finished with a 17-8 advantage in shots and a 7-2 lead in corners, including four in the second half.

The match, however, was in the balance all the way until the end as Wayne State had one more shot late, earning their second corner with just over 10 seconds to play. But the Wildcats' feed from the corner rolled wide of everyone as time expired, giving MISU's Jimi Guibor (So., G, Manteca, Calif.) her first shutout of the season.

Guibor finished with one official save, seeing eight shots for the shutout and moved to 3-0-0 on the season.

Minot State travels for a pair of NSIC matches this week, playing at Minnesota Crookston Saturday at 11 a.m. and finishing the weekend up at Bemidji State Sunday at 1 p.m.
