Beavers settle for tie with UMC

Minot State earns point on the road with 0-0 overtime tie

Box Score CROOKSTON, Minn. – Minot State University only allowed two shots on goal in the match, but generated just four as the Beavers settled for a 0-0 overtime tie with Minnesota Crookston Saturday at the UMC Soccer Field.

The Beavers (5-6-3 overall, 5-5-2 NSIC) couldn't take full advantage of Augustana College's loss Saturday and are now two points behind the Vikings for seventh place with three matches to play. Minot State lost a point to Northern State, who is in ninth, one place out of the conference tournament. The two face each other in the Beavers home finale Nov. 1 at Herb Parker Stadium.

"The girls played hard in some tough elements today," said MISU head coach Jason Spain. "There was a sideways wind, a choppy field and very cold temperatures. We struggled to settle the ball in the attacking third."

Minot State's Jimi Guibor (So., GK, Manteca, Calif.) pitched her second straight shutout with two saves, seeing a total of seven shots to preserve the tie and help the Beavers to a point on the road.

Minot State finished with 14 shots total and generated four in the overtimes, but didn't get a shot on goal in the overtimes. Chloe Melton (Fr., F, Fleet, England) finished with a team-high four shots and had two on goal. Kristin Long (So., M, Mesa, Ariz.) added three shots and one on goal.

Lexie Gauger had four saves for the Golden Eagles (3-9-3, 1-8-3).

Minot State still has a chance to move up to sixth as they trail Bemidji State by four points with three matches remaining. A big contest looms Sunday as Minot State travels to BSU for a 1 p.m. NSIC match.
