Minot State hangs on to beat Southwest

The Beavers led by as many as 20 points Saturday night

MARSHALL, Minn. – Minot State University's women's basketball team never trailed in Saturday night's Northern Sun road win at Southwest Minnesota State University.

MISU (11-11 overall 7-11 NSIC) once led by 20 points in the first half, and held off a Mustang comeback to snag their second win of the weekend, 64-60.

A fast start for the Beavers was the difference in the game. Sacarra Molina (Sr., Guard, Hinsdale, Mont.) hit a jumper with 8:37 left in the first half to push a 28-8 lead over Southwest Minnesota State (4-20 overall 2-16 NSIC). Molina led MISU in scoring with 20 points off 7 of 11 shooting. She also dished out five assists in the win.

Carly Boag (Jr., Forward, Tamworth, Australia) followed her 37 point-14 rebound performance with a solid effort, totaling 12 points and six rebounds. Alisha Jones (Jr., Guard, Killeen, Texas) netted 11 points in season-high 38 minutes and Morgan Klose (So., Guard, Fairview, N.D.) chipped in with 11 points in the win.

Both Minot State and SMSU had similar shooting percentages, but the difference was 3-point shooting. The Beavers hit 7 of 14 (50%) 3-point shots while the Mustangs hit just 3 of 15 (20%) 3-point shots.

The Beavers will now head north back to the Magic City to prepare for their final home weekend of the 2012-13 regular season. Minot State will host Bemidji State on Feb. 15 at 6 p.m. and Minnesota, Crookston on Feb. 16 at 4 p.m.
