Beavers fall for first time

Minot State drops a 2-0 decision at No. 24 Central Missouri

Box Score WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Minot State University gave up a goal in each half, falling 2-0 to No. 24 ranked University of Central Missouri in nonconference NCAA Division II women's soccer Saturday at the South Recreation Complex.

The Beavers (0-0-1 NSIC, 0-1-2 overall) had two straight ties to start the season, one in conference and one out of conference before the loss. Minot State was seeking the programs first win over a top 25 team, but fell to 0-3-2 in ranked games.

"We were abysmal offensively," said MISU head coach Jason Spain. "We need to be better early in matches. Taylor Carlstrom (Sr., D, Portland, Ore.) was the lone bright spot for our team."

UCM (2-1-1) scored in the 30th minute as the eventual game-winner was netted by Hannah Moran off a corner-kick header off a feed from Nicole Pond. Pond also assisted on Kayla Hamner's second half goal in the 66th minute for the Jennies.

Minot State could not mount a consistent attack to get the equalizer and finished with just two shots on goal. Allyssa Perez (Fr., D, Valencia, Calif.) and Zoe Fisher (Jr., CM, Cambridgeshire, England) had the only two shots for the Beavers. Minot State's defense was just about as good as they limited the Jennies to 12 shots total and seven on goal.

Gemma Biasetto (So., GK, Albuquerque, N.M.) finished with four saves for the Beavers and Jimi Guibor (So., GK, Manteca, Calif.) added a save in her first action for the Beavers.

Minot State returns to conference play next weekend as they travel to Southwest Minnesota State Saturday and the University of Sioux Falls Sunday. Both games are scheduled for 1 p.m.
