Minot State's
Gemma Biasetto (So., G, Albuquerque, N.M.) finished with seven saves in her goalkeeping debut, helping Minot State University to a 0-0 two overtime tie with the University of Mary in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference women's soccer Thursday at Herb Parker Stadium.
"I was really pleased with our goaltending tonight. Consistency has been a problem for Gemma in the preseason and she has addressed some other things as well," said MISU head coach
Jason Spain. "Sometimes she gets a little too fancy, but tonight she did a good job and made some hard plays look easy."
The Beavers (0-0-1 NSIC, 0-0-1 overall) generated 16 shots total and had nine shots on goal, but couldn't get a win in the season opening game. U-Mary keeper Shelby Buttron matched Biasetto with nine saves in the tie. Preseason NSIC Offensive Player of the Year
Zoe Fisher (So., CM, Cambridgeshire, England) finished with four shots on goal.
"With our offense, it takes a little time to get used to things and we need to execute better on our trip to Missouri," Spain said.
But neither team generated a ton of offense as both defenses kept the ball away from the netminders. U-Mary (0-0-1, 0-0-1) hit a post and hit a crossbar during regulation, but neither team had a bevy of quality chances.
The Beavers will move on to nonconference play as they travel to Southwest Baptist Sept. 12 and No. 11 ranked University of Central Missouri Sept. 14.
