COACHES CORNER: Jason Spain is in his fifth season as head coach of the women's soccer program at Minot State. Spain has done impressive work in his four seasons with the team, sporting a highly successful 42-27-9 record. Last season, Spain led the Beavers to their second consecutive birth in the NSIC postseason tournament. In 2012, the Beavers won the NSIC tournament and claimed the automatic bid into the NCAA Division II tournament. Ali Omar leads the Winona State Warriors and has been doing so for 19 years. Omar has won 11 NSIC championships and program has been named champions in 10 of the last 14 seasons. He's been the only coach in the history of the program. Brian Diaz is in just his second year with the Upper Iowa Peacocks and had success in his first year with the school. Diaz led the Peacocks to program best 15 wins including a 12-3 record in the NSIC.

RANKINGS: No teams facing Minot State this weekend are ranked in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America top 25 poll. The Winona State Warriors received nine votes and sit three spots outside the top 25. Minot State is ranked No. 8 in the region.

NOTING THE BEAVERS: Minot State finished the week of Sept. 22 undefeated, marking the first unbeaten week for the Beavers in 2014. On Saturday, Sept. 27 the Beavers came back against Southwest Minnesota State after being down 1-0 in the first half to gain a 2-1 victory. Chloe Melton (So., F, Fleet, England) notched her second straight game-winning goal for the Beavers to clinch the match. Minot State carried their momentum from Saturday into their game Sunday afternoon against the University of Sioux Falls. Four different players got on the scoresheet for the Beavers in the team's 4-0 win. Kristin Long (Jr., M, Mesa, Ariz.) recorded a goal and an assist on the weekend.

NOTING THE WARRIORS: Winona State enters the week of Sept. 29 sitting in the No. 3 position in the NSIC and they're game against Minot State is pivotal in keeping that position or moving up the table. The Warriors are coming off a 2-0 weekend themselves with their first win of the weekend coming against St. Cloud State. The Warriors got a goal in both halves to win the game 2-0. The following day, the Warriors dug out a 1-0 victory against Minnesota-Duluth. Meg Riebau delivered the game winning goal in the 70th minute when she finished a cross from Hannah Burt. Burt earned NSIC offensive player of the week honors while Madalyn Jansen earned NSIC defensive player of the week honors.

NOTING THE PEACOCKS: Despite starting Northern Sun play 0-2, the Peacocks have hit their stride in the past few games. Upper Iowa is in the middle of a three game winning streak and they've won all three of those games comfortable by the score of 3-0. This past weekend, the Peacocks hosted two home games and they began the weekend with a game against Minnesota-Duluth. Three different players provided goals for the Peacocks in the contest. The team continued their winning ways on Sunday defeating St. Cloud State.

SERIES HISTORY: Minot State leads the all-time series against Winona State with a 2-1 record but lost the most recent matchup between the two teams in 2013. The Warriors defeated the Beavers 2-1 in Minot, N.D. Upper Iowa holds a 2-0 advantage on Minot State in the teams' brief history. The Peacocks defeated the Beavers 1-0 in the meeting between the two teams last season.

TWO-FOR-TWO: Minot State's No. 2 Taylor Bachman-Williams (Sr., D, Minot, N.D.) recorded her second goal of the season this past Sunday when she headed in a corner served by Jamie MacFarlane (Sr., F, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan). Bachman-Williams is currently tied for the most points on the team.

ALL I DO IS WIN: Chloe Melton (So., F, Fleet, England) may only have two goals on the season, but she's picked the right time to put the ball in the back of the net. The sophomore forward's two goals have both proved to be game-winners for the Beavers in 2014.

KEEPIN' IT CLEAN: Head coach Jason Spain's decision to move Gemma Biasetto (Jr., F, Albuquerque, N.M.) to forward and Celene Johnson (Jr., GK, Rocklin, Calif.) to starting goalkeeper continues to pay off for the Beavers. Biasetto score her first goal of the year to help yield a comeback last Friday and Johnson has two clean sheets in her three starts.
