MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State University volleyball ended the weekend with a split when they defeated the University of Sioux Falls Sunday afternoon 3-2.
"I am like I have been all year—proud of my kids," head coach
Travis Ward said. "They have played well enough to win games each week and I am happy they were rewarded for their effort and consistency. It was a great team effort."
The Beavers jumped out to an early lead defeating the Cougars 25-18 in the first set. After dropping a tight second set 26-24 the Beavers took the third set 25-22.
The Cougars didn't go without a fight though taking the fourth set 25-18, but it the Beavers closed things out in the fifth. Minot State took the final set 15-11.
Mallory Sall (Jr., OH, Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) led the way for the Beavers in the match recording 22 kills. All-time kills leader
Jen Dixon (Sr., OH, Brandon, Manitoba) ended the match with 19 kills, while
Tarah Dabovich (Jr., MH, Phoenix, Ariz.) ended with 14.
Cindy Pelo (Jr., L, Idaho Falls, Idaho) led the way defensively for the Beavers with 26 digs while Dixon ended the match with 25.
Emily Byrne (Sr., S, Reno, Nev.) ended with 15.
With the win, the Beavers improve to 4-12 and 2-6 in the NSIC. The Cougars fall to 8-9 and 3-5 in the Northern Sun.
The Beavers are back home this weekend and they'll welcome in No. 16 Augustana College.
