Beavers start weekend off right

Sall and Dixon both record 16 kills in win

MINOT, N.D. – After falling to the Upper Iowa Peacocks 3-0 earlier this season, the Minot State volleyball got their revenge Friday night inside the Minot State dome walking away with a 3-1 victory.

"I'm pretty proud of our girls for continuing to fight," head coach Travis Ward said. "It's easy to kind of have these end of year games be—when you're not necessarily fighting for the conference tournament—more difficult. They're sending our seniors out on a great note. We've got one more match tomorrow to hopefully show that we did belong—we are a tournament team."

The Beavers took control of the first set right away, primarily due to the amount of service aces recorded in the set. The Beavers recorded six of their 25 points off of service aces on their way to a 25-17 victory in the first set.

While Minot State got out to an early 10-5 lead in the second set, the Peacocks hung around and made things interesting. Upper Iowa took seven-of-eight points late in the set to even it up at 22-22. After trading the next two points, Jen Dixon (Sr., OH, Brandon, Manitoba) recorded one of her 16 kills to give the Beavers a 24-23 lead and the Beavers took the set off an attack error by the Peacocks.

After the brief intermission, Upper Iowa came out reenergized taking the fourth set 25-18, but their success ended in the third set.

The Beavers got out to an early 7-2 lead in the final set and never looked back. With neither team stringing together more than two straight points the rest of the way, the Beavers took the final set 25-21.

Mallory Sall (Jr., OH, Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) also ended the match with 16 kills alongside Dixon. Tarah Dabovich (Jr., MH, Phoenix, Ariz.) recorded eight kills of her own in the match while Shaunessy Dauwalder (So., OH, Stanley, N.D.) had seven.

Emily Byrne (Sr., S, Reno, Nev.) recorded an impressive 49 assists in the match.

Tomorrow night Minot State will honor the accomplishments of their two seniors, Byrne and Dixon, with a special pregame ceremony. After the seniors are honored, the Beavers will look to end their season on a high note with a match against Winona State set for 6 p.m.
