BOX SCOREMINOT, N.D. – The Minot State University wrestling team was unable to remain undefeated in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Friday night as it fell to Minnesota State, 39-7, in Mankato, Minn.
Da'Wayne Robertson got the Mavericks off to a good start when he won by fall in the 125 weight class, but
Jason Huger (Fr., 133, Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) responded well for the Beavers winning a major decision 15-1 move the score to 6-4 in favor of Minnesota State after two matches.
The teams split the next two matches with
Cody Haugen (Fr., 149, Minot, N.D.) winning a 5-3 decision in the 149 weight class, but a 12-2 major decision in favor of the Mavericks in the 157 weight class gave Minnesota State a 14-7 lead heading into the intermission and they never looked back.
"We wrestled fairly well before the break," Minot State head wrestling coach
Robin Ersland said. "Then the wheels fell off and we didn't win again."
In the last five matches, the Beavers lost by forfeit, by fall, by a normal decision and by two technical falls surrendering 25 team points to the Mavericks.
"It was a lot better than the last time we were down but still not what we want," Ersland said. "Tomorrow is a new day and we'll get after it again."
Minot State will travel to Aberdeen, S.D. for another Northern Sun dual tomorrow when they take on the Northern State Wolves. The meet is set for 7 p.m.
