THIS WEEK: Minot State will host Minnesota State Moorhead on October 24 as the Beavers celebrate 90 years of football. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
RECORDS: The Beavers (1-6, 1-2 NSIC North) are coming off of a 42-28 loss against St. Cloud State. The Dragons (3-4, 0-3) lost 42-28 last week at home against Bemidji State.
COACHES CORNER: Minot State's head coach is
Tyler Hughes, who is in his second season at the helm. He is 2-16 at Minot State and 22-20 overall as a head coach, all at Snow College in Ephraim, Utah, where he coached from 2011-12. Hughes spent the 2013 season as an assistant coach with Urban Meyer at Ohio State. Steve Laqua is in his fifth season as the head coach of MSU Moorhead. In 2014 Laqua led the Dragons last season to the best offense in the NSIC, ranking sixth in the nation in total offense with 517.6 yards per game. Prior to joining MSU Moorhead he was the head coach at Fargo Shanley High School turning the program around from two winless season to state champions in just three years. Laqua has also spent time at North Dakota State, Minnesota Crookston and St. Olaf College.

RANKINGS: Neither team is ranked in either the American Football Coaches Association Poll or the D2Football.com polls.
RECENT HISTORY: Minot State, coming off of a win, began its game against St. Cloud State with a strong run game that moved the ball 75 yards on 11 plays to score the first touchdown of the game. After a touchdown scored by the Huskies the Beavers were able to force a turnover and score another seven points 13 seconds before halftime to go up 14-7. SCSU scored the next three touchdowns to take a 14 point lead before the teams traded scored back and forth before finishing the game 42-28 in favor of the Huskies. Like Minot State, MSU Moorhead was leading its game at halftime. With a 28-7 lead after the first two quarters the Dragons allowed Bemidji State to score the next five touchdowns and win the game 42-28.
OVERALL SERIES: Minot State is 1-2 against Minnesota State Moorhead in a series that began in 2012.
LAST TIME OUT: With a 52-7 victory last season MSU Moorhead was able to 360 yards rushing with four rushing touchdowns and three passing. Minot State was not able to get on the board until the fourth quarter when
Jarvis Mustipher (RB, Jr., Melbourne, Fla.) ran 35 yards into the end zone. Mustipher finished just four yards short of passing the century mark with 96 yards on 14 attempts. Minot State struggled to hold on to the ball fumbling three times, turning it over twice.
Porter Sturm (WR, Sr., Roy, Mont.) led the passing game with six receptions for 32 yards while
Aaron James (LB, Sr., Oklahoma City, Okla.) led the defense with 11 tackles.
NOTING THE DRAGONS: Minnesota State Moorhead began the season with three wins only to follow it up with four straight losses. The Dragons are the second most efficient passing team in the Northern Sun with a 161.2 efficiency rating. MSUM is one of five teams in the NSIC with a completion percentage about .600. As a team they have thrown the third fewest interceptions (4) and fourth most touchdowns (18). The Dragons are dangerous when they enter the red zone, scoring 81 percent of the time they have been inside the 20-yard line.
DOING WHAT THEY MUST: With the hot hands, or feet rather,
Jarvis Mustipher (RB, Jr., Melbourne, Fla.) has carried the ball 55 times in the last two games after only getting 62 touches in the first five games. After breaking his career record two weeks ago (154) Mustipher once again broke his record with 175 yards against St. Cloud State. He also has scored once in each of the last two games. Over the last three games the running back has averaged 6.3 yards per carry and is averaging 5.2 on the season with leads the team.
PLAYING KEEP AWAY: For the first time all season the Beavers were able to play the entire 60 minutes without throwing an interception. With
Jose Escobar (QB, Jr., Norwalk, Calif.) getting his first start of the season he was able to keep the ball out of the defenses hands with a completion percentage of 62.5. Escobar threw for 182 yards and three touchdowns by completing 15 of his 24 passes.
ZERO PENALTIES: For the first time this season Minot State finished its game without drawing any penalties while St. Cloud State lost yards eight times due to a rule violation. The game last week was just the third time this season the Beavers had less penalties than their opponent. Minot State, although finishing with no flags, is still one of just four teams in the NSIC to have more than 50 penalties called against them. Teams that have played the Beavers have drawn their fair share of penalties with 74 yards per game given to Minot State from opponents mistakes, second most in the conference.
SEEING DOUBLE: The Beavers are averaging just over 16 points per game while their opponents while their opponents have been averaging 32. Opponents have also scored twice as many rushing touchdowns as Minot State with a seven to 14 comparison. While MSU has scored 10 times in red zone appearances, opponents have scored 20 times. Beaver kickers have hit three field goals while kickers from other teams have put six through the uprights against Minot State.
BY THE NUMBERS1: Times this season the Beavers have ran fewer than 60 plays on offense. Minot State has also only seen less than 60 plays ran by an opponent once.
