Kingsbury powers Beavers past Saints

MINOT, N.D. – Minot State University senior Savanna Kingsbury (F, Omaha, Neb.) scored a career-high 17 points and pulled down seven rebounds to push the Beavers to a 90-71 nonconference NCAA Division II win over Presentation College Tuesday at the MSU Dome.

The Beavers (1-2 overall) outscored Presentation College in each of the final three quarter to pull away from the Saints (2-3) to earn their first win. The game was tied after the first quarter at 17, but a big 32-18 run in the second quarter broke the game open.

Kingsbury hit 7 of 11 shots from the field and knocked down 3 of 4 from the line for her 17. She topped her former career best of 15 scored at the end of last season against Bemidji State. Kingsbury finished with seven rebounds, two steals, one assist and one blocked shot.

Minot State struggled a bit from the floor in the second half, hitting just 12 of 35 from the field and went 2 for 11 on 3-pointers, but crashed the boards to the tune of 18 offensive rebounds. MSU held a commanding 52-38 advantage in rebounds and pulled down eight more offensive rebounds than the Saints.

Haley Froelich continued to score in bunches for the Saints, scoring a game-high 34 points in 35 minutes. She hit 13 of 24 field goals and 3 for 10 from beyond the arc. Sydney Larson chipped in with 21 points, knocking down 13 of 14 free throws and added six rebound for PC. The rest of the team combined for just 19 point after Froelich and Larson.

Kari Clements (RFR., G, Trevort, Wis.) and Morgan Hunter (Jr., G, Invercargill, New Zealand) both reached double figures for the Beavers as Clements scored 14 points, while Hunter chipped in with 11. Caitlin McLachlan (RFr., F, Strathfieldsaye, Australia) added nine points and six rebounds, while Madison Wald (Fr., G, Minot, N.D.) scored nine points and added three rebounds, three assists and four steals.

The Beavers are back at the Dome with a nonconference game against Dickinson State Wednesday starting at 6 p.m.
