THIS WEEK: Minot State earned the No. 3 seed in the NSIC Tournament with a team-record 12 conference wins. The Beavers take on their Minnesota namesake rival Bemidji State Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Herb Parker Stadium. The winner of the "Beaver Bash" will take on the winner of No. 2 seed Augustana University and No. 7 seed Southwest Minnesota State Friday in the NSIC Tournament Semifinals at the highest remaining seeds home field.
RECORDS: Minot State (14-3-1, 12-2-1) won both of its games last weekend against Minnesota State Moorhead and Northern State. Bemidji State (11-6-1, 8-6-1) played two overtime games last week losing to St. Cloud State and defeating Minnesota Duluth.
COACHES CORNER:
Jason Spain is in his sixth season as head coach of the women's soccer program at Minot State. Spain has done impressive work in his four seasons with the team, sporting a highly successful 52-34-11 record. Last season, Spain led the Beavers to their third consecutive birth in the NSIC postseason tournament. In 2012, the Beavers won the NSIC tournament and claimed the automatic bid into the NCAA Division II tournament. Jim Stone is in his 14th season as the head coach for Bemidji State. Stone accounts for 127 of the programs 140 wins in its history. With an overall win percentage of .602 Stone has coached his team to finish above .500 for nine straight seasons. Prior to joining BSU, he served as the head coach at Spring Lake Park High School. Stone has spent time coaching at Augsburg College, Fargo Shanley High School, Red River High School and Fargo North High School. Before coaching, Stone competed for and captained the Concordia College men's soccer team.
RANKINGS: Minot State is no longer ranked in the top 25 after being ranked the past two weeks, but did receive votes in the October 27 National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division II poll. Bemidji State did not receive votes in the poll. Minot State also remained at No. 4 in the NCAA regional rankings while BSU is ranked at No. 10.
NOTING MINOT STATE: Outscoring their opponents 6-0 over the last weekend the Beavers were able to score with five different players. Shutting out both teams in one weekend for the first time all season Minot State has added to its total shutout number reaching nine, the second most in school history. The Beavers have also been able to share the ball better than ever before recording 27 assists on 33 goals. The previous record for an MSU team was 21 in 2010.
NOTING BEMIDJI STATE: Scoring 35 goals this season Bemidji State ranks second in the Northern Sun with 1.94 goals per game. They also rank second in points (goals and assists) with 102, and average of 5.67 per game. The Beavers play a clean game with the second fewest fouls on the season in the conference. The main offensive player for BSU is Sarah Stram. With 10 goals and six assists totaling 26 points, Stram has produced more than any other player on her team by seven points.
SERIES HISTORY: With a win on September 20, Minot State evened the series with Bemidji State at four wins apiece. The series has been played since the MSU inaugural season in 2010.

RECORD SEASON: With 14 wins this year Minot State has broken the regular season wins record that was set at 12 in 2012. That season, the Beavers went on to win the NSIC Tournament. With 13 wins this season goalkeeper
Celene Johnson (Sr., Rocklin, Calif.) has tied the season record for most wins by a goalie, also set in 2012. Johnson's total wins are now at 22, which is the most in a career at Minot State. With another 2012 record being matched,
Ninfa Ramirez (F, Jr., Perris, Calif.) added to her points total last weekend moving her to 31 points scored this season, a record she now holds alongside Zoe Fisher who also totaled 31. Ramirez already broke Fisher's 2012 mark of 11 goals, but has now moved her lead up with a total of 14 goals this season for the most in Beaver history.
TWINNING: With
Chloe Melton (F, Jr., Fleet, England) sidelined last Sunday against Northern State, twins
Ashley Franco and
Andrea Franco (Fr., Long Beach, Calif.) were able to play on the same side for a majority of time for the first time all season. Coach
Jason Spain has said that he wants to see the sisters play on the same side in the future. With Ashely playing defense and Andrea playing at forward the two have played major roles for the Beavers this season combining for three goals and four assists.
SUCCESS AT HOME: Minot State is 6-2 at home this season outscoring its opponents 13-6. MSU is 3-1 all-time against Bemidji State when playing in Herb Parker Stadium, including a 1-0 win in the first ever game for Minot State. The last time the Beavers hosted a tournament was in 2012 when they were able to defeat Mary 2-1 on their way to a NSIC Tournament title. That year the rest of the playoffs were held in Mankato, Minn. at Minnesota State University. If Minnesota State defeats Concordia, St. Paul Wednesday they will host once again.
WITH A WIN: If Minot State is able to defeat Bemidji State the team will advance to the second round of the NSIC Tournament that will be hosted by the top seeded of the remaining teams, which will be determined after Wednesday. The Beavers would play the winner of No. 2 Augustana and No. 7 Southwest Minnesota State which is scheduled to be played Wednesday at 2 p.m.
BY THE NUMBERS12: Goals allowed. Minot State has allowed the third fewest goals in the NSIC at 12 and only trail Minnesota State (9) and Augustana (11).
44: Saves by MSU goalkeepers. That mark is the fewest in the NSIC. With a save percentage of 78.6 the Beavers rank 11th in that category.
