THIS WEEK: Minot State takes to the road for the last time in 2016, traveling to Minnesota State University Moorhead for a 1 p.m. matchup Saturday.

RECORDS: Minot State is 2-6 overall, 2-6 in NSIC play and is 1-3 in the NSIC North Division. MSUM comes into the weekend with a record of 4-4, 4-4, 2-2.

COACHES CORNER: Minot State's head coach is Tyler Hughes, who is in his third season at the helm. He is 4-26 at Minot State and 24-30 overall as a head coach. MSU Moorhead's head coach is Steve Laqua who is 21-42 overall in his sixth season.

RANKINGS: Minot State and MSUM were not ranked in either the American Football Coaches Association Top 25 poll or the D2Football.com Top 25 this week.

RECENT HISTORY: MSU got its ground game going Saturday in a 38-30 win over Minnesota Crookston. The Beavers, led by a school record 264 yards from Ben Zahniser, finished with 320 rushing yards, the most on the ground since moving to NCAA Division II. Zahniser also scored four times. Jose Escobar came off the bench to pass for 144 yards and a TD to help the offense. The Dragons also gained 320 yards rushing in a 47-16 win over the University of Mary. Demetrius Carr passed for 166 yards and ran for 143 to pace the offense.

OVERALL SERIES: MSUM leads the series 3-1 dating back to Minot State's first season in the Northern Sun.

LAST TIME OUT: MSUM scored 17 fourth quarter points to rally past Minot State at Herb Parker Stadium in 2015. Porter Sturm had a 128 yards receiving and a touchdown to lead Minot State's offense. Both Isaiah Weed and Jose Escobar earned time at QB for the Beavers with Escobar throwing for 162 yards total. Demetrius Carr threw for 158 in the win for MSUM.

NOTING THE DRAGONS: Minnesota State University Moorhead's Demetrius Carr has been a dual threat this season, passing for 1,560 yards and 17 TDs and rushed for 263 yards and four scores… Damon Gibson has caught 62 passes for 1,055 yards and 11 TDs already in 2015… Michael Strand, Abe Roehrich and Aaron Bohl all have 50 or more tackles on the season with Strand leading the way with 59 overall.

NOTING THE BEAVERS: Minot State Ben Zahniser had his best day in his young Beaver career and it turned out to be the best rushing day in school history. His 264 yards topped Darrik Trudel's record of 251 set in 2002 against Valley City State… MSU upped its total rushing yards to 907 after gaining over 300 on the ground against UMC… Jose Escobar made his second appearance in 2016 and his most extensive outing, passing 14 times. He completed 10 for 14 for 144 yards and a score… Keegan Verdugo caught five passes for 53 yards and scored his first TD of the season… Verdugo, a tight end, is third on the team with 20 catches… Donnell Vercher and Trevin Swensen continue to lead the defense as they have 141 tackles combined… Dalton Houghton finished with two sacks in Saturday's win over UMC, to lead the team with three total.
