MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State University volleyball team lost to St. Cloud State in four sets (25-19, 18-25, 19-25, 19-25) on Friday evening during the Dig Pink Night.
The Beavers came out in set one on fire getting up early and keeping their lead throughout the set. Three MSU players recorded four or more kills during that first set as 18 of their 25 points came from kills.
After that St. Cloud State took over as they won the next three sets and the match. The Huskies took advantage with their serves as they totaled 14 aces in the match.
"Every time they were at major points it seemed like they would get an ace," said head coach
Ben Kaszeta. "If we were coming back all of a sudden we would get hesitant and they used those very much to swing the match from one way to another."
Minot State was led offensively by freshman
Emily Falldorf who had 16 kills.
Janelle Nagy was second with 13 while
Brileigh Boyce had eight. Falldorf also played well defensively as she recorded three blocks. Fellow freshman
Hayley Swain led the team with four blocks, two solo and two assists, to add to her six kills.
"Emily and Hayley are both coming together," Kaszeta said. "They are competing with each other every day and know they can't relax or the other one will take over. They're getting more comfortable and with comfort comes better performances."
Sophomore
Kelsey Dewulf recorded a season-high 46 assists as Nagy and
Cindy Pelo led the team with 13 digs each.
Minot State will compete against No. 1 Minnesota Duluth tomorrow, October 7, at 6 p.m. in the MSU Dome.
