MINOT, N.D. – Minot State University was outscored 14-4 over the final six minutes as Minnesota Duluth pulled away for a 67-53 win in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference women's basketball Saturday at the MSU Dome.
The Beavers (11-17 overall, 8-14 NSIC) trailed much of the game, including 12-2 to start the game, but has climbed all the way back to a two-point game after a three-point play
Kori Eurich (Jr., G, Pueblo, Colo.) made it 51-49 with 7:09 to play in the game.
But the Bulldogs (7-19, 7-15) scored 15 of the game's next 17 points to break away.
"We looked a little fatigued tonight," said MSU head coach
Sheila Green Gerding. "There is a lot of emotion attached some times to the last home game for the seniors. Quite honestly we just had a lot of mental lapses and looked like we were tired."
That was especially evident early as UMD took a 12-2 lead on an Emma Boehm 3-pointer four minutes into the game.
But MSU tied the game at 15 on a
Madison Wald (Fr., G, Minot, N.D.) free throw five minutes later and it was back and forth from there on out.
UMD outscored MSU in all four quarters, 18-16 in the first, 15-13 in the second, 16-14 in the third and 18-10 in the fourth. MSU got back into each quarter during the middle half, but couldn't finish a quarter off.
"We never had the push tonight," Green Gerding said. "Again, I thought we played great last night I don't know if we attribute that to how things went tonight because we looked tired tonight. We hung around for quite a while, but didn't have enough to finish."
Boehm led all scorers with 19 points hitting all four of her 3-pointers to pace UMD. Allyson Harris and Sammy Kozlowski scored 15 and 14 respectively in the win.
Wald had a solid game for MSU, scoring 12 points.
Savana Kingsbury (Sr., F, Omaha, Neb.) closed out her home career with another double-double – her seventh on the season – with 10 points and 10 rebounds to go along with two assists and two steals.
"She was great all game," Green Gerding said of Wald. "I thought she had a good first half and second half. She did some nice things and helped us through some stretches when we needed it."
MSU finished with the sixth seed in the NSIC North Division and will play No. 3 Augustana University Wednesday in Sioux Falls, S.D., in the opening round of the NSIC / Sanford Health Women's Basketball Tournament.
