MSU back on the road for first NSIC North game

THIS WEEK: Minot State begins its NSIC North Division play Saturday traveling to Northern State for a 2:30 p.m. start.

RECORDS: Minot State is 1-3 overall and 1-3 in NSIC play. Northern State comes in with a 2-2 record overall and in NSIC play. This is the first NSIC North Division game for both teams.

COACHES CORNER: Minot State's head coach is Tyler Hughes, who is in his third season at the helm. He is 3-23 at Minot State and 23-27 overall as a head coach. Tom Dosch is the head coach at Northern State and is 56-52 overall and 33-37 in six years in Aberdeen.

FOLLOW THE BEAVERS: The game is broadcast locally on KCJB 910-AM with Scott Kittell calling the play-by-play. Live audio can be accessed online at kcjb.com. RANKINGS: Minot State and Northern State were not ranked in the American Football Coaches Association Top 25 poll or the D2Football.com Top 25 this week.

RECENT HISTORY: The Beavers dropped a 35-7 road decision to Upper Iowa last week, the final NSIC North-South battle on the MSU schedule. Minot State jumped out 7-0 as Jarvis Mustipher scored early in the first quarter, but MSU failed to find the end zone again in the loss. Isaiah Weed threw for 226 yards for the Beavers. Northern State rolled over Concordia-St. Paul 31-7 at home in its final North-South game. Christian McAlvain rushed for 157 yards and passed for 128 more for NSU

OVERALL SERIES: Minot State trails the all-time series 13-5-1 dating back to both team's NAIA days and NSU has a six-game winning streak.

LAST TIME OUT: The Beavers scored first on a Charles Hall 1-yard run, but gave up 31 straight points to fall 45-14 last year under the lights at Herb Parker Stadium. Running back Jarvis Mustipher finished with 86 yards rushing for MSU, while Northern State's Nicholas Truen's 87 yards rushing paced the Wolves

NOTING THE WOLVES: Northern State will be celebrating homecoming this week althought they call it Gypsy Days. It will be the 101st celebration of the event... NSU is outscoring its opponents 44-17 in the fourth quarter... Nicholas Truen and Christian McAlvain are both averaging over 4.5 yards per carry, with Truen leading the team with 324 yards rushing overall... McAlvain is the team's leading passer at 551 yards and four TDs this year... Chad Stoterau leads the team with 33 tackles and has 4.0 sacks this season, while Channing Barber is second in tackles (27) and leads the team with two interceptions.

NOTING THE BEAVERS: Despite getting outscored 125-48, Minot State nearly has as many first downs as its opponents trailing just 79-71 in that category... Isaiah Weed has been solid as the team's starting quarterback, throwing for 659 yards, completing 65 percent of his passes... MSU has outthrown its opponents by nearly 2-to-1 as they have 1,023 yards passing compared to 559 given up.
