ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Minot State volleyball team fell in three sets (12-25, 16-25, 16-25) to St. Cloud State on Saturday afternoon in St. Cloud, Minn.
The loss drops the Beavers to 4-18 (0-13 NSIC) on the season while the Huskies improve to 14-9 (6-7 NSIC).
Sophomore
Shelby Spuller led Minot State with nine kills, followed by five kills from
Emily Falldorf and four kills from
Brileigh Boyce.
Kelsey Dewulf notched 18 assists along with nine digs on the defensive side.
Freshman
Karli Koza posted a team-high 16 digs.
Inside Set 1
St. Cloud State jumped out to an early 12-5 lead in the first set. Minot State got with seven points off a Faldorf kill, cutting the deficit to 18-11 before the Huskies went on a 7-1 rally to win the set. Falldorf and Spuller led Minot State with two kills apiece.
Inside Set 2
The Huskies took 5-2 lead right away before Minot State climbed back to lead 8-7 off a Huskie error and a Falldorf kill. SCSU went on a 5-0 run to take the lead for good, winning the second set 25-16. Falldorf and Boyce paced the Beavers with three kills each while
Jeanne Brenner added two kills.
Inside Set 3
Minot State led 4-1 after a Spuller kill, Huskie error and back-to-back service aces from Koza. The Huskies answered with a 9-3 run of their own to take the lead at 10-7. SCSU outscored the Beavers 15-9 after that to clinch the match with a 25-16 third set win. Spuller led the Beavers with six kills, as Minot State hit .162 in the set.

Minot State returns to action next weekend, as they host a pair of NSIC matches at the Minot State Dome. The Beavers will face Minnesota Crookston on Friday, Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. before hosting Bemidji State on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 2 p.m.
