MINOT, N.D. -- Senior
Tyler Rudolph scored a game-high 22 points and Minot State shot 53.6 percent from the floor in an 84-71 victory over Valley City State on Monday in the Minot State Dome.
The Beavers improved to 5-0 on the season and remain the only undefeated team in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
Rudolph posted the 70th double-figure scoring game of his illustrious career, and the 21st in a row, to power the Beavers to the win. He finished the game 9-of-15 from the floor and 2-of-2 from the free throw line and he also added eight rebounds, a blocked shot and an assist.
The Beavers also got 17 points from Russ Davis and 16 points and seven rebounds from David Akibo. Minot State also got a career-high 10 assists from senior
Luis Ricci Maia as the Beavers piled up 21 assists on 30 baskets.
Minot State shot 50.0 percent from the three-point line led by Davis who was 5-of-7 from distance.
Valley City State was led by Justyn Galloway who had 18 points, while Rashad Satahoo added 11 points.
Minot State, which led for the entire game, jumped out to an 11-0 lead to start the game as Rudolph scored six points in the first 4:38 of the game.
The Beavers used an 8-2 run, which included a three-point basket from
Brandon Green, to push the lead to 31-11 at the 7:27 mark of the first half.
Valley City State responded with a 9-0 run to cut the lead to 31-20 at the 4:46 mark of the first half, but the Beavers took a 40-27 lead into the intermission.
Minot State opened the second half on a 9-0 run as Rudolph, Davis and Akibo all connected on three-pointers to increase the lead to 49-27 with 17:37 to play in the game.
Minot State built the lead to 64-41 on a jumper by Ricci Maia, but the Vikings closed to within 66-53 at the 7:33 mark of the second half.
A jumper by Rudolph and back-to-back three-pointers by Davis pushed the lead to 74-53 with 5:52 remaining in the game and the Vikings could not get the deficit under 14 points for the remainder of the game.
Minot State returns to action on Wednesday (Nov. 22) when it hosts Yellowstone Christian at 7:30 p.m. in the Minot State Dome.
