MINOT, N.D. – Senior Kristal Flowers poured in a career-high 18 points and grabbed a career-high 21 rebounds to help Minot State defeat Mary 72-62 for their first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference win of the season.
With 21 rebounds, Flowers moves into third all-time for most rebounds in a single-game in Minot State history.
Minot State improves to 4-1 (1-0 NSIC) on the season while the Marauders fall to 3-3 (0-1 NSIC).
Holly Johnson and
Madison Wald followed Flowers in scoring with 17 points apiece.
The Marauders outscored the Beavers in the first quarter 15-9 and held Minot State to 18% shooting from the field. Johnson paced MSU with four points while Flowers grabbed 10 rebounds, including seven on the offensive end.
Trailing by six points, Minot State answered by outscoring Mary 20-11 in the second quarter. The Beavers shot 45% from the field, led by ten points from Flowers and five points from
Kari Clements.
The Beavers extended their lead to six points going into the fourth quarter. MSU tallied 16 points on 36% shooting while holding the Marauders to 13 points.
Madison Wald led the Beavers with six points, one rebound an assist.
In a high-scoring fourth quarter, Minot Stated edged Mary 27-23 on their way to a 72-62 victory over the Marauders on Saturday afternoon. Leading 60-58 with 3:36 remaining in the game, the Beavers closed the game on a 12-4 to earn their first NSIC win of the season. MSU shot 9-15 from the floor and 8-11 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter to halter any late rally from the Marauders.
MSU shot 38% from the floor and 62% from the free throw line while limiting the Marauders to 31% shooting from the field.
The Beavers finished the game with a dominant 60-36 advantage in rebounding and 46-22 advantage in points in the paint.
Minot State returns to action next weekend when they play host to Northern State on Friday, Dec. 1 at 6 p.m. and Minnesota State Moorhead on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 4 p.m. in the Minot State Dome.
