Beavers Complete Season Sweep of Mary

BISMARCK, N.D. -- Senior Nathaniel Moore led four players in double figures with a season-high 19 points and Minot State completed the season sweep of Mary with a 77-65 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference victory over the Marauders on Tuesday in the McDowell Activity Center.

Minot State, which defeated Mary 91-61 on Nov. 25 in the Minot State Dome, swept the Marauders for the first time since the 2014-15 season.

The Beavers, who improved to 11-1 overall and 5-1 in the NSIC, shot 52.7 percent from the floor for the game which marked the third consecutive game in which Minot State has topped 50 percent shooting from the field.

Moore finished the game 7-of-10 from the floor and 2-of-3 from the three-point line to surpass his previous season high of 18 points which he scored against Northern State on Dec. 1 in the MSU Dome. Moore also had seven rebounds and two assists and was 3-of-3 from the free throw line.

Junior David Akibo added 17 points and eight rebounds, while Tyler Rudolph chipped in with 13 points. It marked the 32nd consecutive double-figure scoring game for Rudolph which dates back to last season.

Senior Brandon Green also registered a season-high for the Beavers as he finished with 10 points on 3-of-6 shooting from the field. Luis Ricci Maia added eight points and seven rebounds for the Beavers.

Mary, which dropped to 2-8 overall and 0-6 in conference play, was led by Keith Hunter who scored 18 points. Matthew Kreklow added 15 points for the Marauders.

Minot State, which won its fourth consecutive game, used an 8-0 run midway through the first half to take control of the game. Rudolph and Moore hit back-to-back three-pointers and Trevor Rothstein capped the run with a layup giving the Beavers a 31-20 lead with 3:57 to play in the first half.

A jumper by Trevor Zacher got the Marauders to within 35-28, but Akibo drilled a three-pointer to end the first half giving the Beavers a 38-28 lead heading to the intermission.

Akibo opened the second half with another three-pointer and Green pushed the lead to 43-28 with a layup with 18:24 to play in the game.

Mary responded with a 13-4 run to trim the margin to 47-41 with 14:54 remaining in the game, but Moore righted the Minot State ship with a three-pointer and Ricci Maia put the Beavers back in front by double figures with a layup at the 13:21 mark of the second half.

Minot State never led by less than 10 points for the remainder of the game and took its largest lead of 16 points on two separate occasions.

Minot State will return to action on Dec. 30 when it hosts St. Cloud State in an NSIC contest at 6 p.m. in the Minot State Dome.
