MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State volleyball team opens NSIC play this week with two matches against Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference foes.
The Beavers host Minnesota State Moorhead on Thursday, Sept. 14 at 6 p.m. in the Minot State Dome. Minot State will also head to Aberdeen, S.D. to play at No. 24 Northern State on Saturday, Sept. 16 at 5 p.m.
Thursday's match is also Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day where Minot State University faculty and staff members receive free admission and one free popcorn with their faculty/staff ID.
Beaver Bits
Sophomore
Shelby Spuller leads the Minot State offense with 4.03 kills per set, ranking fourth in the NSIC.
Junior
Kelsey Dewulf paces the Beavers with 9.52 assists per set.
Sophomore
Emily Falldorf has notched a team-high 25 blocks and ranks second on the team with 56 kills this season.
Senior
Brileigh Boyce and sophomore
Jeanne Brenner are tied for third on the team with 55 kills apiece.
Freshman
Karli Koza sits fifth in the NSIC with 155 total digs on the season.
Scouting the MSU Moorhead Dragons
MSU Moorhead enters Thursday night's match with a 5-3 record on the season. Courtney Selbitschka and Kayln Jenkins lead the Dragon offense with 2.81 and 2.50 kills per set, respectively. Kylie Kanwischer ranks sixth in the NSIC with 1.03 blocks per set.
Head coach Tammy Blake is in her 23
rd season at the helm of MSU Moorhead and carries a career record of 374-302.
The Dragons lead the all-time series with the Beavers, 11-1. MSU Moorhead won 3-1 in their previous match this season on Sept. 2 at the Sleep Inn & Suites Minot State Classic in Minot, N.D.
Scouting the Northern State Wolves
No. 24 Northern State enters the week with a 7-1 record in their 2017 campaign. The Wolves will play at UMary on Thursday, Sept. 14 before facing the Beavers Saturday. Hailey Busch is averaging 4.04 kills per set, ranking third in the NSIC. Ashley Rozell leads the offense while dishing out 11.19 assists per set.
Head coach Brent Aldridge is in his seventh season leading the Wolves program and enters the week with a career record of 121-60.
Northern State leads the all-time series with Minot State, 23-7. The Wolves swept the Beavers last weekend in the Max and Erma's Classic in Aberdeen, S.D.
