Denton's Career Day Leads Beavers Past Concordia-St. Paul

MINOT, N.D. – Diondra Denton shot a perfect six of six from three-point range, as she tied her career-high with 24 points to lead Minot State to their fourth Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference win of the season with a 71-54 victory over Concordia-St. Paul on Saturday afternoon.

Minot State improves to 7-9 (4-8 NSIC) on the season while the Golden Bears drop to 4-13 (1-10 NSIC).

Denton is now tied for first in Minot State history for three-point field goal percentage in a single-game, tying Beth Quaintance who also went a perfect six of six vs. Jamestown on Feb. 24, 2004. Denton is also tied for third in program history for most three-pointers in a game.

Minot State jumped out to a quick 8-4 lead and never looked back, as the Beavers led 15-9 after the first quarter.

The Beavers extended their lead to double digits when Denton knocked down a three-pointer with 1:26 left in the first half to give Minot State a 30-20 lead over the Golden Bears.

Minot State opened the second half with a 9-2 run off layups from Holy Johnson and Kristal Flowers and a three-pointer from Madison Wald, on their way to outscoring the Golden Beavers 21-9 in the third quarter.

Denton and Flowers combined for 14 of Minot State's 18 fourth quarter points, as Concordia-St. Paul outscored the Beavers 24-18 in the final quarter.

Minot State shot 49.2 percent from the field, including 58.8 percent from three-point range while the Beaver defense held the Golden Bears to 30.9 percent shooting from the floor.

The Beavers forced Concordia-St. Paul to commit 13 turnovers while holding a 39-35 advantage in rebounding over the Golden Bears.

Minot State assisted on 18 of 29 field goals and notched seven steals on the defensive end.

Johnson scored in double-figures for the 11th time this season with 16 points while grabbing six rebounds and dishing out a team-high four assists.

Wald added 13 points and four rebounds, and Flowers posted her fifth double-double of the season with 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

Minot State returns to action next weekend, as the Beavers travel to Bemidji, Minn. to take on Bemidji State on Friday, Jan. 19 at 6 p.m. before heading to Crookston, Minn. to face Minnesota Crookston on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 4 p.m.
